  • Double Barrel (fbbc??) almost 4” wide total $25 - requested 9 hours after posting - GOT
  • *iron mind little big horn - I haven’t used it much.  But these rust very easily.  I’ve cleaned the surface rust off (vinegar) but there’s very light pitting on it. $60 - HAVE
  • 2” country crush (light blue frame) $60 - CONSIDERED
  • Dube cube (grip n bend in Canada) $45 - requested 9 hours after posting - SOLD
  • Half moon (griptopz?) $40 - requested 9 hours after posting - GOT
  • Horne top (griptopz) $40 - HAD
  • hub (griptopz) $25 - requested 9 hours after posting - SOLD

  • *Less wide shallow hub 4.25” W $25 - NO INTEREST
  • Dub hubs (barrel strength): one is 4” wide, and the other is 3” wide.  I only have one of the pin adapters that go in the bottom so I’d prefer to keep them together.  $65 takes both - CONSIDERED
  • flask $65 - HAVE
  • original trilobite system (Jared goguen?) two handles, 2x3” rollers, 2x2.5” rollers, 2x2” rollers $120 - CONSIDERED
The whole lot would have been $750.  Individual pricing came to $840.

*Still available at 15 hours

I am not surprised the Dube Cube sold quickly.  They have not been produced in quite some time.  The trilobite system is a screaming deal as a full set from BSS would run $440.  The rest of the items were priced reasonably from 50-70% of retail.

I was excited to pick up the double barrel, moontop and loading pin with lever top.  I also wanted to buy the stub, hub and dube cube, but they were already spoken for.  These area  nice addition to my training arsenal.  They are also nice to have from a historical perspective.  These seem fabricated by David Horne.  Gods of Grip took over production of his designs.

Euro Pinch

I sought out a Euro Pinch after hearing about a Grip Sport "total"

The total was three lifts
  • RGC Rated Gripper Close
  • IronMind Axle Double Overhand Deadlift
  • Two Hand Euro Pinch
An elite total would be considered hitting 800+ pounds in a 12 month period.  This post dates back to 2011.  They were revived in 2025 as part of the World Wide Grip Battle: Chasing Elite - RESULTS

When researching the Euro Pinch, these were originally sold by David Horne.  Jedd Johnson started selling them as well.  Chris Rice had a custom set up.  Jedd's setup includes the steel plates and inserts for adjustable width and would be $269 plus shipping.

I was extremely fortunate that Steve Millard was cutting back on his grip equipment and would part with his euro set up for $40.  Apparently it had been collecting dust for quite some time.  The set up traveled from Carbondale to Cheyenne where Kim picked it up and brought it back to Denver.

It included locally fabricated steel plates, spacers from Jedd, Schedule 80 Pipe, Spin Lock Collars and Jedd's Euro Training DVD.  I have not watched the DVD yet, but have played with the set up.  I prefer a roughly 2.5 inch spacing.

Grip Board - Adam Juncker

I have been a happy customer of Adam Juncker custom equipment and he added a few more goodies to the grip board selling page.

First is a tapered handle on a BSS Trilobite Frame.  Originally priced at $125 shipped.  Dropped to $100 shipped.

Next piece is even more interesting.  It is a custom 2x5 Saxon Bar with collars.  Weight is 34.5 pounds empty.  He is only asking $100 and his shipping estimate is $145 from his location in Indiana to L.A. was $145.  The price is certainly right.  The big question is do I need another heavy grip implement.  I rarely use my 3x4 Saxon bar.  When I purchased the Sorinex 3x4 it was $205 (less 5% discount) +$65 shipping + $20 tax = $275 to my door.  This is cheaper and includes collars.  Currently the Arm Assassin Strength Shop version is $150 + $70 shipping + tax.

UPDATE 5/20/2025 - I hem hawed for just over a week.  During that time Adam dropped the price on the handle down to $90 and I decided to purchase.  The Saxon Bar was a good enough deal that I decided to just get both.

Shipping the handle was $18 and $70 is a screaming deal.  Shipping the Saxon Bar was $92 and $192 for a 2x5 Saxon Bar delivered is an amazing deal (cheaper than either Arm Assassins or Sorinex).  The collars are really nice also.

IronMind Special Items

IronMind is doing some housecleaning.

2" Knurled Handles - $25
I have no need for these despite the low price; They could have gone with my IronMind dumbbell handles if the 2.5" handles were not welded on.
-----

Wrist Reinforcer Leverage Bar Prototypes - $69.95
These were prototypes and actually look pretty cool, but not something I was super excited about.
-----
Big Boy Dumbbell Bar - $124.95
These were a warehouse cleanup; 24" long, 1-1/16" diameter, 5-1/4" handle.  Kind of an odd item, especially at the steep price point
-----
Pinch Grip Pills - $249.95
These were prototypes and offered as a heavier or lighter disc.

Per IronMind "If your pinch grip is hampered by iron poor blood, grab these Pinch Grip Pills from IronMind: We prototyped these a couple of decades ago, opted not to go into production, so here's your chance to own a piece of iron game history while developing a potent pinch grip.

Precision machined from mild steel with gently curved faces.
  • Heavier Disc - 6-3/4" diameter, 2-1/4" wide, weighs 26.9 pounds - $249.95
  • Lighter Disc - 6-3/4" diameter, 1 -3/4" wide, weighs 22 pounds - $150.00
I am not a huge blob lifter, but I do think these prototypes are very cool.  For $150 I went ahead and ordered one.

Modern blobs are extremely heavy and impractical for my grip.  Loadable trainers all have roughly a 4" diameter that I cannot get my hands around.

Staniewicz Strength Equipment 53 pound = $160
Staniewicz Strength Equipment 48 pound = $145
Holle Blobs 20-30kg, cost?
Gods of Grip Loadable Blob trainer = $115
Micrograinz Blob Trainer = $120
Canon Power Works BLOB50 = $200 + shipping

------
In addition they had
  • S-Cubed Bar - 1-3/8" diameter, 12" center knurl (early model with dings, scratches) for $749.95
  • Buffalo Bars (scuffs, scratches) for $849.95
  • Kettlebell Handles (warehouse clean-up) for $59.95
  • Books, DVDs, Posters - from $5.95 to $100
  • Clothing - from $9.95 to $21.95

Grip Prep

With the Grip Championship two weeks out is was time to start testing the lifts and verifying openers.

Pinch Grip, Strict

The girls were at 31 pound openers (10# plates plus the 11# bar and collars).  I managed 60, 70, 75# (with the 25# plates) and managed 80# (with the 35# plates).

Deadlift, Inch DB, One Arm

The girls were at 37 pound openers (6# handle plus 25 pounds of plates).  I managed 76, 86, but failed 91 pounds.

Vertical Bar, 1 Bar, 2"

The girls were at 51 pounds and 61 pounds for Nisha and Diya respectively.  I managed 100, failed 110 and then made 105 pounds.

Hack Lift Fulton Bar

Girls are at 63 pounds.  I managed 123, 173 and was 50/50 at 213 pounds.

Armlifting Greece

Top Row
Olympus Peak (WR = 50.05kg) - Oval (WR = 41.70kg)

Bottom Row
Pillar of Hercules (WR = 132.60kg) - The Discus (WR = 41.10kg) - Minotaur Horn (WR = 101.75kg)

The listing is from the Grip Board and the pieces are from a company called Armlifting Greece.  As an afficionado of weird stuff, of course I have to have it.  The $90 shipped is more than reasonable and works out to $18/implement shipped.  Considering shipping cost of around $20, he is taking home considerably less.  Plus, I love the names of the implements.

I waited a bit too long and the gear is spoken for within 48 hours.  It probably would not have seen much use, but very cool anyway.

COC Silver Bullet

After hearing about all of the fun at Rolling Hills Grip Challenge 3, I decided to buy an IronMind Silver Bullet.  These go from $19 from IronMind.  With the 2.5kg calibrated plate, the price jumps to $219.  Shipping is another $10.  I want to play with it a little bit, but spending $200 for the plate is hard to justify.

IronMind Thick Handles

I like all unique items, especially when they come from premium brands like IronMind.  These 2.5" knurled dumbbell handles certainly fit the bill.  They take 1" plates.

I cannot use them for USAWA lifts, I don't have many standard plates, but I am still interested.

Zstan on the grip board originally listed them for $150 in November 2024 along with several other items.  The price has since dropped to $125 (12/2/2024), $115 (12/11/2024) and $110 (2/11/2024).

While the price is certainly fair, it is expensive for something I don't need.  I think I would be a buyer at $100 including shipping.

UPDATE 4/3/2025 - After patiently waiting, the price did drop to $100.  I messaged the seller and secured purchase.  I am not quite sure what I am going to do with these, but seeing as they are no longer being produced and IronMind's build quality, I am glad I purchased.

https://www.ironmind-forum.com/forum/strength-medley/want-ads-buy-sell/2252-fs-ironmind-nesting-husky-thick-handled-dumbbells

These arrived well packaged.  Aside from some surface rust, these things look great.  The "interchangeable handles" are welded on.  They have a good feel.  Not sure how much use they will get.  One little hiccup is that not all of my standard plates fit on the handles.

Arm Assassin Strength Shop

New toys arrived!

Arm Assassin Strength Shop came through again with a Heavy Lift Bar, Hand & Thigh Bar and a 1-5/8" Thumb Blaster.

These appear to be very well built and certainly exceeded my expectations.  Arm Assassin has always been a good value, the finishes have been good and now the craftsmanship has improved as well.

Looking forward to giving these a whirl tomorrow.

UPDATE:  1/27/2025

These worked out great.  Easy to load and configure with my harnesses.  Hip Lift - 570, Harness Lift - 570, Hand & Thigh - 275, Neck Lift - 140 pounds.

Grip Items on Facebook Marketplace

Jason Wood is unloading some grip items.  I reached out regarding the Apollon's Axle which he had listed on Facebook Marketplace for $175 ($399 retail plus $50 shipping + $30ish tax).  He already had somebody coming by, but if his deal falls through, I am next up.  I did end up purchasing this for $175 (44% of retail).

I asked if he was selling anything else and he was letting go of his Barrel Strength Systems (BSS) stuff.  Flask (retail $139), Loading Pin (retail $36.50), Tips Tester (retail $109), DubHub (retail $65).  Total is $349 retail that he would sell for $175 (50% of retail).  Not quite as good a deal as the axle, but certainly a fair price.  I already have a flask, but can probably sell the spare to Kim for what I paid for it.

Then came to the icing on the cake.  Jason through in some extras and I am kind of glad I did not haggle on price.

BSS Competition Crossbar - Retail $139

FBBC Final Form Vertical Bar Base - Retail $85
FBBC 1" Head - Retail $45
FBBC 1.5" Head - Retail $50
FBBC 2" Head - Retail $55

Resin Ball (4.5" Diameter) - Grip Genie?
Hilt (2" Diameter, 5" long) - Grip Genie?

Working in all of the freebies, I am at $1123 (net 33% of retail).  Another perk is that everything is well seasoned after some time in Florida and then garage stored in Colorado.

I will keep the 1.5" FBBC head and the novel BSS items.  The rest I may offer to Jarrod and Kim.

UPDATE 4/5/2025 - Kim ended up purchasing the Flask and Loading Pin for $100.  My net cost for the Tips Tester and Dub Hub is $75 (43% of retail).  Just in line with the Apollon's axle.  Plus the freeebies.  I am at $947 (paid $250, 26% of retail)

Grip Bronze Standard

  • Credit Card Set a COC No.1
  • Lift any inch trainer at 130 pounds
  • Lift a 100# legacy blob, 20kg holle blob, half 90 pre USA Blob or Blob Trainer (minimum 44 pounds)
  • Plate Pinch two 25 pound plates
  • Hub a 25 pound plate
  • Bend any type of 60 penny nail (galvanized, polished, etc.)
This little challenge was put forth by Ben Helms.  I can close a number 1, need to work up to 130 pounds on an inch trainer (probably close to 100 now).  Half 90 may or may not be possible.  I am not sure about the plate pinch.  The hub will be tough.  I am probably around 15 pounds.  I am not sure about the bending.  I am certainly an infrequent bender.

King Kong 2024

Top Row: Katherine, Marc, Kathy Jacob, Daniel
Bottom Row: Akeem, Broc, Andrew, Sanjiv, Lewis

King Kong 2024 was exciting with a new venue on the front range and a great group of competitors including newcomers and experienced athletes ranging in age from 7 to 95 years old.

The event was sponsored by Marc Brothersom and Akeem Jenkins.  Marc is recently off of a record setting performance at the Arm Lifting USA Super Series in Las Vegas.  Akeem is big and strong.  We were joined by newcomers Katherine, Broc, Andy, Kathy and Jacob.  Louis and Daniel had more experience with grip.

Entry was pre-paid at registration and weigh in was easy.  I squeaked in at 204.6 pounds (92.8 kg) by taking off my t-shirt.  I did not warm up much, but did utilize my gripprotrainer.

The implements were reasonably well seasoned and felt very similar to what I use at home.  We used crossbar and knock bar by Barrel Strength Systems.  The implements and loading apparatus were weighed together and then we utilized Rogue calibrated kilogram plates.

The event was last man standing:
  • Crusher – 45.67, 48.17, 50.67, 55.67, 60.67 kg (PFP 60%; in line with last year at 56.25 kg) 216th
  • IronMind Block – 14.07, 15.32, 16.57, 17.82, 18.32 kg (PFP 19%; well behind last year when I pulled 21.9 kg) 235.5th
  • Finnish Ball (13” Lift) – 9.16, 11.66, 14.16, 16.66, 17.91, 19.16 kg (PFP 21%; well behind last year at 23.5 kg) 229.5th
  • Little Big Horn – 40.62, 43.12, 48.12, 50.12, 54.37, 55.62 kg (PFP 60%; PR! versus 52.27 kg at home) 199th
Overall I was 230/243 men, 35/37 93kg men and 8/8 50+ 93kg men

It was a well balanced performance besides dropping to the bottom of the field.  Benchmark on pound for pound (PFP) excellence is 120%, 50%, 50%, 120% respectively.

I did better with my increment jumps this year.  Last year was pretty granular and I felt myself wearing out.  It was nice having a little extra in the tank.  I was off of last year primarily due to limited training.  Dropping 4 kg on the Block and Little Big Horn is just being unprepared.

We got started on time with weigh-in at 8:00 AM and were packing up by noon.  We used one main platform and a side platform for two lifters.  I was impressed by the organization and judging.  All of the standards I expect were met.  It certainly had a lower pressure feel.  At Carbondale it was clear that folks were gunning for World Records.  Less care was taken to keep skin oils off of the implements at this venue.

Dragon's Tooth

After some searching, I can claim that the Pyramid I purchased is indeed a Dragon's Tooth by John O'Connor.

I found a couple of videos from about 5 years ago.  There is also a painted one on the grip board that has the same rough dimensions.

Couple of New Grip Implements

Clay Edgin was cleaning house on the grip board.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I think grip has been great to me. Been able to do a lot with it in the competitive sense, but I think it's time to put it away. Moving in with my fiance in a couple months and I want to clear out the toy chest. Prices and devices are listed below. Most everything is negotiable. Since I have these things for sale on multiple locations, I might miss your message if you reply on the Gripboard. Best bet is to text me at 5128153583. Prices do not include shipping. Shipped from Austin, TX.  None of the grippers being sold are rated.

1. Rolling Thunder - $50
2. 2" Arm Assassin thumb blaster - $30
3. 2" Barrel Strength Systems tips tester $50
4. Ironmind anvil - $40
5. Excalibur $30
6. Pyramid $25
7. Bear Grip Revolving Handle (stainless and spins on ball bearings) - $75
8. Custom Barrel Strength Systems revolving vertical handle $75
9. 2 3/8" Arm Assassin Thumb Blaster - $30
10. The Edginizer - a 2.5" revolving handle I made which spins on ball bearings. A relic. - $40

Number 3.5
Number 3 (2)
Number 2.5

Number .5
Trainer
Sport
Tetting Grippers:
Super Elite
Grand Elite
Thor
Heavy Grips
HG 500 (#1 run from the production)
HG 400 (#1 run from the production)

Heavy Grips only made 500 of each gripper in this size. They had oversized handles and almost comically large springs. The 400 feels like an easy 3 and the 500 feels like a #4. Each handle was stamped with the number that they came off the production line and these are the first ones ever made.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I was not too interested in the grippers, except of course for the Tettings.  Among the implements, I had several including the rolling thunder, anvil, fat grips and wrist wrench.  I did end up requesting the Excalibur and pyramid and am glad I did.

The Excalibur was said to be made by Arm Assassin Strength Shop and although it was listed for close to cost, I was happy to grab it.  When it arrived, I noticed it was from the Bear Paw Store (a Russian Company) that makes grippers and grip implements.  "Excalibur for the Bear Paw Deadlift" Weight 650 grams, handle length 150 mm, handle diameter 50 mm, 1400 Rubles (~14 USD)

The pyramid was supposedly a prototype made by Mike Saffell.  This thing is brutal to lift.  My initial attempts with it yielded a measly 12 pounds.  Mike Saffell of Saffell Performance is an athlete out of Eastern Ohio that has a long history of strength training and grip.  I reached out and it was not his.  He did point me towards John O'Connor and I am now convinced that it is a Dragon's Tooth.  I spotted it in a couple of old youtube videos and saw a painted version on the grip board.  There were very few of these made and now represents a jewel in my modest collection.

Rocky Mountain Grip Sport 4th Annual Summer Grip Challenge

I ventured back to Carbondale for another fun grip event.  Instead of going up the night before, I drove up in the morning and the 2.75 hour drive was pretty easy.  I think I prefer cold energy drinks to warm coffee when driving.  I arrived a little early and got settled in before weighing in 92.9 kg (just making the 93kg weight class) and warming up.

The field was smaller and included Steve (host), Jeremey (host), Jesse and myself.  The competition was not much of a competition due to Steve still recovering from a torn bicep and Jesse nursing an injured A2 pulley on his right ring finger.

We performed the following lifts:

Competition
  • Double Shallow Inch (AASS)
  • 2-3/8" Wrist Wrench (AASS)
  • Horne Top (Horne)
Records
  • 2x5 Saxon (CTS)
  • The Payne (AASS)
  • Inch Hold for Time (?)
  • Apollon's Axle (IronMind)
  • Gold Bar (Horne)
2" x 5" Saxon Bar

I really liked the 2" Saxon Bar to lockout.  I had never trained with one.  I made 61.4, 65.4, 71.4 before missing 75.4kg.  71.4 kg = 157.4 lbs.  Jesse skipped this lift.  Jeremy and Steve tied at 111.4 kg.  Cue to try to bend the bar to get locked in really engaging the pinky fingers.

Double Shallow Inch Pinch

I was more comfortable with the double shallow inch pinch (6" lift).  I made 19.5, 22, 24.5, 27, 29.5 and finally 33 kg (72.7 lbs PR!) which absolutely blasted my personal best at home of 55.6 lbs.  Steve won this event at 50.5kg, followed by Jeremy and Jesse at 45.0 and 41.0kg respectively.  No coaching cues.

2-38" Wrist Wrench

Next we went to the 2-3/8" Wrist Wrench (6" lift).  At home I was making 57.5 lbs.  In the competition I made 25 and 27.5 before missing 30 kg.  27.5kg = 60.6 pounds which was another PR!  Jesse skipped this one.  Jeremy won the event at 47kg followed by Steve at 45kg.  No coaching cues, but set up should be level and minimize diameter by not overlapping the wrap.

The Payne

Next we went to The Payne (6" lift).  This was an John Oka designed implement fabricated by Arm Assassin Strength Shop.  It was new to me and I was pleased to make 10.8 and 11.8 before failing 12.8kg.  I hit the crossbar with 12.8 kg, but did not control the descent.  Steve won the event at 23.5kg, followed by Jeremy at 22.0 kg, followed by Jesse at 19.85kg.  Jesse tore some of the webbing on his hand, kind of ruining what was left of the competition for him.  Steve attempted 24.5 kg which would have tied Jason Dingey's world record.  Cue to really engage hand webbing.

Horne

Finally, we finished with the Horne Top (10" lift).  I had practiced with the is some and had made 108.5 lbs in training.  In competition, I made 50.35, 52.35, 55.35 before missing 57.35kg.  55.35kg = 122.0 lbs which was another huge PR!  Steve was top dog at 93.35kg followed by Jeremy at 58.35 kg.  Cue to grab higher on the implement.

Inch Hold for Time

Inch Hold for Time was performed by Steve and Jeremy.  Steve got 4.23 seconds which did not beat his previous record.  Jeremy set a record at 6.76 seconds.  This was an interesting lift with quarters balanced on the bell to represent control.

Double Overhand Axle DL

Finally, Jeremy attempted the Apollon's Axle, but could not beat his previous best record.

With Jesse only completing one of the three events, I "won" the 93 kg and under.
Steve "won" the over 93kg with a GSI score of 295.7 over Jeremy at 251.6.

Records Session

Jesse had a 66kg record in the Double Shallow Inch Pinch and The Payne
Steve beat his previous 105kg record in the Horne Top and established the record in The Payne

The drive back was equally uneventful.  I stopped in Frisco for a sandwich and still made the drive in just about 3 hours.

Another perk of the event was getting a genuine Otevoima Finnish Ball to train for this year's King Kong.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a final note, I am teetering on the edge of being an experienced grip athlete:
  • 2019 King Kong
  • 2023 King Kong
  • 2024 Rolling Hills Grip Challenge 2
  • 2024 Dubs Grip Classic
  • 2024 Rocky Mountain Grip Sport 4th Annual Summer Grip Challenge
In addition to these live events, I participated in Joe Hodgson's four hand flask challenge and Elite Grip Societies four week online challenge.

I have yet to compete in Armlifting USA, but they sponsored some great events as well.

USAWA also has an annual grip championship that I went to in 2024.  This does not include grip implements, but instead lifts that are typically limited by grip strength such as 1 hand vertical bar, axle bar, rim lift, and plate pinches.

I should really test all of these one more time before Carbondale.  This event did not exactly sneak up on me, but I have not been doing much specific training.
