The Beasts of Buckley was originally scheduled for this summer, but was rescheduled. It was posted on December 29th for January 9th. Internally, the date may have been known longer, but I do not train at the Buckley Fitness Center. I called Tyler and got signed up. I figured Men's Master's would be the lightest for me and I was correct.
Event 1 - Deadlift Medley - 75 seconds - I should manage (3) reps on the 270 pound axle, maybe (3) reps at 295 and hopefully at least (1) rep at 315
Event 2 - I tested my Max Flintstone Overhead Press and my best effort was 145 pounds (misses at 155 and 150 pounds). I will hopefully be able to open at 135 and call it. I will not need (3) attempts
Event 3 - Sandbag Carry - I tested carries and 106 pounds felt fine, 161 felt heavy but doable. Heavier than that will be a test just to get it to my chest. In 60 seconds, I will likely be able to just do the first bag and if it is under 200 pounds, I can hopefully set a distance.
Event 4 - Log Press / Axle Press Medley - This will be the toughest for me and I may scratch. Weights are 130 pounds for the Log and 150 pounds for the Axle. The 75 second time cap is a non-issue. I will fight the 130 pound log and see what happens. The only positive is that it is a 10 inch log and should be easier than my 12 inch log.
The real plus is the nominal $20 entry fee which includes a shirt. I was the 4th person to sign up for the master's men's class and could easily be in 4th place. So I am not expecting an award.
